Canada’s Agri-Food Pilot Program
Deadline: March 3, 2025
Program Description

Launched in 2020, the Agri-Food Pilot Program was designed to address persistent labor shortages in Canada’s agriculture and food-processing sectors. By providing a dedicated pathway to permanent residence, the program has enabled thousands of experienced, non-seasonal workers in critical roles to settle in Canada and contribute to its food security and rural economic development. Now, as the program enters its final phase in 2025—with a cap of 1,010 applications and a closing date of May 14 it remains a key route for skilled agri-food workers to secure long-term residency in the country.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Agri-Food Pilot, applicants must meet several essential requirements:
• Relevant Work Experience:
Candidates should have significant, non-seasonal work experience in designated agri-food roles. This includes positions in food processing, meat or mushroom production, greenhouse operations, and similar sectors critical to Canada’s agri-food industry.
• Language Proficiency:
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English or French by achieving the required scores on standardized tests like IELTS or TEF, meeting the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level specified by IRCC.
• Documentation:
Essential documents include proof of work experience, educational credentials, and valid language test results. Although a job offer from a Canadian employer can enhance your application, it is not always mandatory if you otherwise meet the criteria.
• Additional Requirements:
Applicants must also pass medical and security checks and provide any additional documents required by IRCC. Detailed guidelines are available on the official program page.
Benefits
The Agri-Food Pilot offers several advantages that make it an attractive option for skilled workers in the agricultural sector:
• Permanent Residence Pathway:
Successful applicants and their families can secure permanent residence in Canada, giving them the right to live, work, and study across the country.
• Support for the Agri-Food Sector:
The program is tailored to address labor shortages, ensuring that critical roles in agriculture and food processing are filled. This not only stabilizes the workforce but also enhances Canada’s food production system.
• Community Integration:
Settlers through this pilot are often welcomed into vibrant rural communities, which benefit economically and socially from the influx of skilled workers.
• Streamlined Application Process:
With clear eligibility criteria and comprehensive documentation guidelines, the program offers a focused and efficient route to permanent residency for those in the agri-food sector.
