Program Description
The Self-Employed Persons Program is an immigration pathway for individuals with significant experience in cultural or athletic activities who can contribute to Canada’s economy and cultural scene. Unlike other programs, this one allows self-employed individuals to apply for permanent residency (PR) without requiring a job offer.
This program is designed for artists, musicians, filmmakers, writers, professional athletes, and other cultural workers who can prove they will contribute to Canada’s artistic, cultural, or sports industries.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:
• Have at least 2 years of self-employment experience in cultural or athletic activities within the last 5 years.
• Demonstrate intent and ability to be self-employed in Canada.
• Meet selection criteria (minimum 35 points out of 100) based on:
• Experience (maximum 35 points)
• Education (maximum 25 points)
• Age (maximum 10 points)
• Language proficiency (maximum 24 points)
• Adaptability (maximum 6 points)
• Meet medical, security, and financial requirements for settlement.

Application Process
Step 1: Check Eligibility
Ensure you meet the work experience, selection criteria, and self-employment requirements.
Step 2: Gather Required Documents
This includes:
• Proof of self-employment experience (contracts, invoices, portfolio, media coverage, etc.).
• Educational credentials.
• Language test results (IELTS, CELPIP, TEF, or TCF).
• Police clearance and medical exams.
Step 3: Submit Application to IRCC
Apply online through the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.
Step 4: Wait for Processing
Processing takes 24 months on average.
Step 5: Receive PR and Move to Canada
If approved, you’ll receive confirmation of PR and can settle in Canada.
If you have a strong portfolio and plan to continue your work in Canada, this program offers a great opportunity for PR without needing a job offer.
